CHRISTIAN STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE MEETING – February 8, 2010
Attendees: Pastor Jami, Steve Litz, Bill Zwickl, Steve Dymond, Brad Smith and Keith Williams

  1. The January financial statements were reviewed.  In comparing the Income Statement to year-to-date January 2009:
    • General giving is up 47.22% ($41,408 vs. $27,482).  This is misleading, as January 2010 was a 5 week month and January 2009 was a 4 week month.  A more accurate comparison would be:
      2010 2009
      Unrestricted Giving 41,407.84 27,482.36
      Less: 5th Sunday of Jan. 2010 (6,736.58) -
      36,681.26 29,491.36 24.38%
      2010 2009
      Unrestricted Giving 41,407.84 27,482.36
      Plus: 1st Sunday of Feb. 2009 - 10,296.26
      43,417.84 39,787.62 9.12%
    • Expenses are down by 1.20% (Personnel down 3.64% ($18,771 vs. $19,479), Office Expense down 6.63% ($1,871 vs. $2,004), Property up 35.63% ($4,424 vs. $3,262), Benevolence/ Programming up 10.48% ($3,625 vs. $3,282) and Mortgage down 16.75% ($5,352 vs. $6,429)).
    • Unrestricted available cash as of January 31st is $79,586.
  2. The V2011 savings account has a balance of $5,459 as of January 31st.
  3. Brad Smith presented the second draft of the skills database. He also presented a first draft of the data collection form for gathering congregational member skills,/interest/capabilities information.
  4. Committee spending is relatively even compared to this same time last year. Property spending is up approximately $1300.00 but may be due to the electricity increase in January.  Property Committee is researching options for electricity and plans on having options available around the March timeframe.
  5. A new fund is being created in the accounting system which will separate the Designated Gifts from the General Giving account. This will provide a more accurate picture of the General Giving fund by taking out monies set aside for designated gifts that have not yet been spent.
  6. The 2009 audit has been completed by Evelyn Williams and Jillian Miller. New auditor volunteers will be needed for the next audit.
  7. A brokerage account has been opened for the Heintzelman Trust and the assets will be split ‘in kind’ (investments remained ‘as is’ instead of being cashed out) once Wachovia completes their part of the transaction.
  8. ULC has received two bequests. One from Emma Snyder for $40,000 to establish the Wilson C and Emma M.Snyder Permanent Memorial Fund, the income earmarked to pay necessary church expenses. The other from Herman P Snyder for $1000.00 to be deposited into the General Fund.
  9. An inquiry will be made to Neffs Bank to determine if they offer any other investment options other than CD’s.
  10. A recommendation will be presented to Church Council to put the Lenten offering money into a discretionary fund for later use at the discretion of Church Council.

The next meeting will be on March 8th at 6:30PM.  The meeting was adjourned.
