Youth Ministry Minutes – April 5th 2010

Minutes from March: Amendment: Harrisburg youth trip meetings are for “All Attendees” with the exception of 3/28 meeting, which includes Parents. Lisa to give diabetic talk at 5/16 meeting.
EYG:
- Mar 21st: Kids Cook for Parents hosted by Patti Hoffman. 4:30-6:30pm prepared food, 6:30-7:30pm served. First Communion Class students attended at the close of class.
- Apr 18th: Easter theme 6:00-7:30pm hosted by Kandy & David Lang.
- May 2nd: Family Movie Night – “The Princess and the Frog”
- Discussion of email reminders for EYG events. Melissa to follow up with office regarding EYG mailing list and updates.
JYG:
- Mar 21st: Baked cookies for baskets which were delivered to shut-ins on Good Friday. Visited Krazy Kone for fellowship following deliveries. Krazy Kone supported Youth with coupons for free cones.
- Mar 21st: Bowling event; 10 youth attended.
- Mar 26th: Kidspeace visit followed by Lock-In at UELC; 19 Youth and 4 Leaders attended. The group enjoyed a buffet dinner and silk-screened t-shirts. 10 youth stayed to assist with the Egg Hunt and Work Day the following day.
- Upcoming events for April/May (dates TBD): Lost River Caverns and Camden Aquarium
SYG:
- A group of youth and parents met and brainstormed on ideas for youth of ULC. They came up with 83 ideas of fellowship, service, faith formation and fun.
- April 10: 9th & 10th graders – TEY event “Troubling the Water” – Theology for youth 9:00a – 5:00p
- April 12: Devodine 6:30 – 8:00p
- April 18 – Harrisburg Mission pre-trip session II, 12-1:00p (All attendees) Tracey will assist with meeting.
- April 25 – Cafe Karaoke Night 7-9:00p, youth to serve food and participate in fun. Ask if leftover food from New Member Reception can be left for the Karaoke Night event.
- May 2 – Nat’l Youth Gathering meeting, 12-1:00p. So far 17 youth and 4 parents have voiced an interest.
- May 2 – Hunger Walk, 1:30p till finished
- Chris Moore suggested a night at the Drive In. We will set up a date in May or June.
Additional Events in Concept/Planning stages:
- Social ministry is reviewing opportunities or youth to help in LWR projects. Rich to follow up in next couples of weeks to firm up dates and service opportunities.
- The Miracle League in setting up a day of caring at their field.
- Valley Youth House in setting up a day of caring at their camp located in Kernsville, PA.
- Weekend Retreat for Youth & advisors
- Joint events with youth groups from other Lutheran congregations
- Road Trip Ministry – a concept of traveling to other towns and ministering to other youth through contemporary music, service and fellowship.

Fundraising events:
- Five Below – presently running
- Italian Dinner – May 15th; Ticket sales May 2nd & May 9th
- Carwash – June 26th; rain date July 10th
- Friendly’s – May 17th
Other Business:
- Request to copy Church Office on all announcement related group emails.
- Discussion of putting general Permission Slips in Cat Class folders at the beginning of each year (September) to cover all events for the year.
- Discussion of Youth Ministry needs for Time & Talent Directory: Activity Leaders and Chaperones. Any other ideas to be emailed to Melissa before April Meeting of Council.
- Discussion of JYG 2/14 meeting. Group leaders to work/communicate together for resolution.
- April 25th: Hosting Coffee and Conversation. Melissa to prepare coffee; Tracey & Youth members to host. Email will be sent to Youth requesting baked goods to be dropped off by 9am.
