Social Ministry

The Social Ministry Committee serves in response to God’s love to meet human needs, care for the sick and aged, advocate dignity and justice for all people, work for peace and reconciliation among nations and stand with the poor and powerless, committing themselves to their needs.

Our congregation serves in response to God’s love to meet human needs through our Social Ministry Committee to: care for the sick and aged; advocate for dignity and justice for all people; and, stand with the poor and powerless by committing ourselves to their needs.

The ministry “to the body” includes participation in the Northern Lehigh Food Bank with food drives and volunteer staffing; taking part in the Northern Lehigh Mission District Ingathering Program which collects items needed by various institutions in the valley; a “Meals to You” Program to assist those returning from the hospital by delivering prepared meals; the Christmas “Adopt-a-Family” Program that purchases gifts for needy families; and the Parish Nurse Program that provides blood pressure screenings, on-site blood drives, CPR classes and educational opportunities that cover various subjects such as health, family, aging, and special needs.

The ministry “to the spirit” includes visitations by members to shut-ins; providing video and audio tapes of weekly worship services to homebound members; Eucharistic Ministers who, along with the pastors, bring communion to our homebound members on a monthly basis; members who offer transportation to church activities for those who do not drive; and, members seeking to help people make fulfilling spiritual connections.

The congregation also supports Disaster Relief efforts by receiving special offerings and sponsoring a team of volunteer relief workers from the congregation who travel to areas that require assistance with rebuilding following a disaster. We also support ELCA and Synodical social ministry concerns.

Members represent the congregation on an ecumenical level at the Lehigh County Conference of Churches and the Northern Lehigh Pastoral Association.
